Once upon a time, I started a book...

[[UPDATE: Broken link is fixed! My apologies, all.]]

I started working on a book project ages ago, and true to my writing ADD, I haven't looked at it or touched it in months. I just reread it, and I don't hate it. It may even be salvageable.

What do YOU think?

What, another one of your blogs? God, woman.

  1. I started a joke that started the whole world crying. No, wait, that was somebody else.

I tried to start on an illustrated kids' story a while back, and all I have are a few character sketches. It's really hard to focus without anybody holding you accountable. Terror of the empty page, and all that. Sometimes it's a good idea for people to club together in this kind of attempt so they have somebody to report to.

I'm here if you want to discuss any of your stuff or get feedback... or just throw things at me. I'm an easy target.

  5. So... hell yeah, go for it! I'm not used to reading much internal stream-of-consciousness type writing, but I think this flows very well. And I want a pumpkin-spice muffin now. In other words, the sensory detail is very good.

I disagree that Norman Fitzgerald should be a prelude. It does sound like you wanted to expand upon him at some point but the way you touch on it in the opening, it seems like something that would come back later, perhaps unexpectedly, in the normal pace of things. Anyway, that's my take on it. Maybe you didn't mean for it to be more than a passing teaser. But I think there is potential there.

  6. Thanks! That means a lot... especially since my mother apparently couldn't get past the first paragraph because it was "so verbose that it was laborious to get through." So yeah, there's that.

But I like it, and I think I'm going to stick with it. I like doing stream-of-consciousness writing. Playing off of emotions and personal reactions to things is something I like to do because we all have emotions, we can all resonate with having these kinds of thoughts.
